USAPA, USAP, and USA Pickleball Approved Paddles

Players still commonly search for the USAPA approved paddle list, but USAPA was the organization’s former name. The current organization is USA Pickleball, often shortened to USAP. In most player searches, “USAPA approved paddles,” “USAP approved paddles,” and “USA Pickleball approved paddles” refer to the same current approval system for USA Pickleball sanctioned competition.

Playing PPA, MLP, or another UPA-A event? USA Pickleball approval does not automatically answer that question. Use the separate UPA-A approved paddle list.

Search the USA Pickleball Approved Paddle List

Search by manufacturer, exact model name, or a distinctive part of the model name. Try the brand and model separately if the full name does not return a result.

What to Do If Your Paddle Is Not in the Approved List

Not finding a paddle does not always mean it failed testing. Many missed searches come from small naming differences. Work through these checks before reaching a conclusion.

• Check the manufacturer spelling. Brand names, abbreviations, and parent-company names can create confusion.
• Search the model without the brand name. Then try the brand name by itself.
• Remove marketing language. Retailers may add words that are not part of the official model name.
• Include letters and numbers. A small suffix may identify a different construction or approved version.
• Check thickness and shape. Standard, elongated, hybrid, widebody, 14mm, and 16mm versions may be listed separately.
• Check whether the paddle lost approval. A model can appear on an approved list and later be removed or decertified.

If the exact model still does not appear, do not treat it as legal for sanctioned play until you verify it through the official USA Pickleball equipment database.

Common Search Mistakes When Checking Paddle Approval

Search data shows that players often look for legality using partial names, nicknames, misspellings, retailer descriptions, and old model information. These mistakes can make an approved paddle look missing—or make a different approved model look like a match.

• Searching a nickname instead of the official model. Use the name printed on the paddle and manufacturer documentation.
• Ignoring model suffixes. Pro, Tour, Power, Control, S, X, XL, and numbered generations may identify different models.
• Assuming every thickness is covered. Search the exact version you own rather than relying on a related 14mm or 16mm model.
• Assuming every shape is covered. Elongated, hybrid, standard, and widebody versions may have separate listings.
• Assuming a paddle for sale is approved. Retail availability does not prove tournament legality.
• Assuming “out of stock” means banned. Inventory status and approval status are separate issues.
• Relying on an old approval logo. Current database status matters more than old packaging or promotional images.

Approved, Removed, Decertified, and Banned Are Not the Same

An approved paddle is currently listed for play under the applicable approval system. A paddle may later be removed, decertified, placed under review, or become ineligible for certain events. Players often use the word “banned” for all of these situations, but the official status and effective date matter.
