Bread and Butter Shogun Paddle Review

Introduction to the Shogun Paddle

The Bread and Butter Shogun paddle is a remarkable addition to the pickleball world, introducing a titanium carbon fiber blend face. This unique design offers a distinctive look while potentially providing groundbreaking performance enhancements. This Paddle comes with a matching cover.

Comparing the Shogun to Previous Models

Compared to its predecessor, the Filth, the Shogun showcases significant improvements in sweet spot size, stability, and power. While the Filth felt stiff with a small sweet spot, the Shogun offers a more forgiving and stable feel, making it a top contender in the market.

Customer-Friendly Policies

Bread and Butter’s customer service policies are impressive. They offer a 30-day return policy, allowing you to try the paddle risk-free. If you don’t love it, you can return it. The Shogun is priced at $189.99, with discounts available that bring the cost down to $162.

Specifications and Performance

The Shogun is an elongated paddle measuring 16.5 inches long, 7.37 inches wide, and 16 mm thick. It features a 5.5-inch handle and utilizes the same thermal form process and unibody shape as the Filth, with foam injection in the perimeter edges. Despite its new titanium face, the paddle maintains a familiar feel with slightly improved performance.

The Shogun delivers spin comparable to high-quality Kevlar or carbon fiber paddles, though it offers slightly less pop than the Filth. The paddle’s dense feel enhances stability and comfort, providing a larger sweet spot and a more stable experience during gameplay.

Performance Evaluation

The Shogun’s swing weight is 120, and its twist weight is 6.12. The paddle feels slightly heavier than the Filth but performs better and hits harder. Its sweet spot is larger, and the paddle is more stable, making it easier to use as a power paddle for various play styles.

Comparisons and Recommendations

Compared to the Filth, the Shogun shows significant improvements in sweet spot size, stability, and a slight increase in power. The Filth has a stiff, almost hollow feel with a small sweet spot and low dwell time, making the ball react quickly off the face.

Customer Recommendations

The Shogun is recommended alongside other high-performance paddles like the Kevlar Hurache X Control and Mark Pickleball’s Mark 1. It offers great power, moderate pop, and added length from the elongated shape.

Popularity and Availability

The Shogun paddle has proven to be extremely popular, having sold out five times since its release. As of today, July 1, 2024 at 1:00 PM EST, it is back in stock, but it is not expected to be available for long. Raw Titanium / Carbon Fiber Pickleball Paddles: Strength and Performance

When it comes to pickleball paddles, the combination of titanium and carbon fiber can be a game-changer. These paddles bring together the best of both materials, offering players an unparalleled playing experience. Here, we delve into the pros and cons of this innovative blend.

Pros of Raw Titanium / Carbon Fiber Pickleball Paddles

  • Strength: The fusion of titanium and carbon fiber results in an exceptionally strong paddle that can endure heavy impacts and rough usage.
  • Power: Titanium adds significant weight and power to the paddle, allowing players to generate more force in their shots.
  • Durability: This material blend enhances overall durability, making these paddles less prone to cracking or breaking.
  • Feel: These paddles can provide a balanced feel between power and control, appealing to players seeking the best of both worlds.
  • Unique Performance: The combination of materials can offer a distinctive playing experience, with enhanced power and control.

Cons of Raw Titanium / Carbon Fiber Pickleball Paddles

  • Weight: These paddles may be heavier than pure carbon fiber paddles, which might not suit players who prefer lighter paddles for quick maneuverability.
  • Cost: The high manufacturing costs could make future titanium blended paddles among the most expensive on the market.
  • Vibration: While titanium can help dampen vibrations better than pure carbon fiber, it still may not fully eliminate the issue.

In summary, titanium/carbon fiber paddles provide a combination of strength, power, and durability, catering to players who want to enhance their shot force while maintaining good control. As the first paddle on the market to blend titanium and carbon fiber, Bread and Butter Pickleball has set a high standard. However, I am optimistic that other brands will soon adopt this blend to create even better pickleball paddles.

  1. I received mine last week. It’s an excellent example of a power paddle, a bit on the heavy side. Control was good, as was spin.

  2. Played with it for a week now and it has become my go to paddle.
Out of the box it’s much faster at the net than I expected considering how heavy it feels to full swing. I get a better sense for the ball on dinks and volleys than I have with other paddles I’ve tried, it doesn’t feel too muted and dead. The sweet spot feels larger than I had anticipated, no complaints there. And all without sacrificing much spin.
To me it’s more all court than power or control.
We’ll see how it pans out for me long term since I have a wrist injury, a bit worried about the heavier feeling swing weight.

  3. First off there are so many amazing pickleball paddles with a blended material face right now and at excellent price points. The Bread and Butter Pickleball Shogun is a fine example with a Carbon & Titanium face. It has similar power and pop as the carbon face Filth. Spin potential is off the charts, more control, the ball feels so plush coming off the face compared the Filth. The ball has so much more dwell time on the face compared to the Filth Out the box, for an elongated paddle I personally found the hand speed to be much faster than the published swing weight would suggest. I’m setting up my Shogun with a 1oz SLYCE Sport speed cap and adding 3 grams of tungsten at the 4 & 8 o’clock position. This setup should dial into my personal paddle taste while improving stability, control, expanded sweet spot, and further increase the hand speed.
